देवराज इंद्र को दिया एक हजार योनियों का श्राप

 इंद्र को देवराज इंद्र के रूप में जाना जाता है, जिसका अर्थ है "देवताओं का राजा", हालांकि आपने देखा होगा कि इंद्र की पूजा नहीं की जाती है। यह उन्हें गौतम ऋषि से मिले श्राप और आदेश के कारण है। वासना से ग्रसित देवराज ने कुछ ऐसा किया जिससे गौतम ऋषि ने इंद्र को एक हजार योनियों का श्राप दिया।

इंद्र की अधिकांश छवियों में, उनके शरीर पर कई आंखें हैं। दरअसल, वे आंखें गौतम ऋषि के श्राप का परिणाम हैं। पद्म पुराण में वर्णित एक कथा के अनुसार स्वर्ग में अप्सराओं से घिरे रहने के बाद भी देवराज इंद्र कामुकता से ग्रस्त थे। एक दिन वह धरती पर चल रहे थे। तभी उन्होंने देखा कि गौतम ऋषि की पत्नी देवी अहिल्या एक झोपड़ी के बाहर खड़ी हैं।

देवी अहिल्या अपने दैनिक कार्यक्रम में व्यस्त थीं। अहिल्या इतनी तेजस्वी थीं कि उन्हें देखकर इंद्र मोहित हो गए। इंद्र ने अहिल्या का रूप धारण करने का उपाय खोजा। उन्होंने गौतम ऋषि के बहाने सुबह अहिल्या के साथ यौन संबंध बनाने का इरादा किया, क्योंकि गौतम ऋषि सूरज उगने से पहले नदी में स्नान करते थे। करीब दो-तीन घंटे पूजा-अर्चना कर लौट जाते थे।

इंद्र से रुका नही गया और जब वासना प्रबल हुई, तब इंद्र ने माया का उपयोग सुबह जैसा वातावरण उत्पन्न करने के लिए किया। यह देख गौतम ऋषि कुटिया से बाहर निकले। गौतम ऋषि के वेश में इंद्र, उनके जाने के कुछ ही समय बाद कुटिया में प्रवेश कर गए। उसने आते ही अहिल्या को एक प्रेम प्रस्ताव दिया।

अपने पति के इस तरह के अजीब व्यवहार को देखकर देवी अहिल्या को पहले तो शक हुआ, लेकिन इंद्र के छल में भीगी मीठी-मीठी बातें सुनकर अहिल्या भी अपने पति के स्नेह में सब कुछ भूल गई। दूसरी ओर, गौतम ऋषि ने नदी के पास आते ही आसपास के वातावरण पर ध्यान दिया और पहचान लिया कि अभी सूर्योदय नहीं हुआ है। कुछ बुरा होने की आशंका में वह घर वापस आ गए। जब वे पहुंचे तो उन्होंने देखा कि उनके वेश में एक अन्य व्यक्ति अपनी पत्नी के साथ अनुष्ठान कर रहा था। यह देख ऋषि क्रोधित हो गए।

गौतम ऋषि ने अपनी पत्नी अहिल्या को श्राप देते हुए कहा कि वह जीवन भर पत्थर की चट्टान रहेगी।

उसी समय, गौतम ऋषि ने इंद्र को श्राप देते हुए कहा, 'तुमने यह सब एक स्त्री की योनि की लालसा में किया; अगर आपको योनि के लिए इतनी लालसा है, तो आपको भी वही होगा। मैं तुम्हारे शरीर पर एक हजार योनियों के रूप में तुम्हें शाप देता हूं। अब आपको एक महिला के साथ रहने की आवश्यकता नहीं है क्योंकि आप एक हजार योनियों के स्वामी हैं।'

इस प्रकार इन्द्र के शरीर से हजारों योनियाँ खिंची हुई हैं। जब इंद्र को अपना दोष महसूस हुआ, तो उन्होंने हाथ जोड़कर गौतम ऋषि से क्षमा मांगी। जब गौतम ऋषि का क्रोध फीका पड़ गया, तो उन्होंने इंद्र के श्राप और उनकी योनियों को आंखों में बदल दिया। 

नतीजतन, इंद्र के चित्र पर एक हजार नेत्रगोलक दिखाई देते हैं।

Indra is known as Devraj Indra, which means "King of the Gods," however you may have observed that Indra is not worshipped. This is due to his order and the curse he received from Gautam Rishi. Devraj, possessed by lust, did something that caused Gautam Rishi to curse Indra with a thousand veginas.

In most images of Indra, there are several eyeballs on his body. Actually, those eyes are the result of Gautam Rishi's curse. According to a narrative told in the Padma Purana, even after being surrounded by Apsaras in heaven, Devraj Indra was engulfed by sexism. He was walking on the earth one day. Then he noticed Gautam Rishi's wife Devi Ahilya standing outside a hut.

Devi Ahilya was busy with her daily schedules. Ahilya was so stunning that witnessing her fascinated Indra. Indra discovered a means to take on the shape of Ahilya. He intended to have sex with Ahilya in the morning under the pretence of Gautam Rishi, as Gautam Rishi used to bathe in the river before the sun rose. They used to return after worshipping for around 2-3 hours.

When the lust prevailed, Indra used Maya to produce a morning-like atmosphere. Gautam Rishi exited the hut when he saw this. Indra, dressed as Gautam Rishi, entered the hut shortly after his departure. He made a love proposal to Ahilya as soon as he arrived.

. Seeing such strange behaviour by her husband, Goddess Ahilya was at first suspicious, but after hearing the sweet words drenched in Indra's deceit, Ahilya also forgot everything in her husband's affection. Gautam Rishi, on the other hand, noticed the surrounding environment as he approached the river and recognised it was not yet sunrise. He got back home, expecting something bad to happen. When he arrived, he noticed that another man in his garb was performing rituals with his wife. Seeing this, the sage became angry.

Gautam Rishi cursed his wife Ahilya, saying she would be a stone rock for the rest of her life. 

At the same time, Gautam Rishi cursed Indra, saying, 'You accomplished all this in longing for a woman's vagina; if you have such a longing for the vagina, you will have the same.' I curse you with the appearance of a thousand vaginas on your body. You no longer need to be with a woman since you are the lord of a thousand yonis.

Thousands of vaginas stretched from Indra's body in this manner. When Indra felt guilty, he folded his hands and requested Gautam Rishi for forgiveness. When Gautam Rishi's rage faded, he changed Indra's curse and the yonis in his eyes. As a result, a thousand eyeballs appear on Indra's pictures.
